The Longleat monkeys have about as bad a reputation for destroying cars as the Top Gear team, but the they are a little out of practice at the moment as their enclosure has been closed to traffic for the past two years.
But the rhesus macaque monkeys will be fully trained up again now that they have their very own car to hone their trim destroying/windscreen wiper stealing/bonnet soiling skills on.
The staff at Longleat thought that the little monkeys might be a little perturbed by the idea of traffic coming through their home once again after being left undisturbed for such a long time, so they gave them an old Mercedes estate to get used to the idea of cars again. Despite our bedtime prayers, vehicle performance has not increased in proportion to Moore’s law, which postulates that the performance of integrated circuits approximately doubles every 18 months. It is, however, in large part due to the exponential increases in computing power that vehicles are significantly safer, faster, and more powerful than they were a decade ago—all while producing fewer harmful emissions. When we find it difficult to come up with the words to describe a new BMW, we typically consult with the wisdom of a late-’60s drummer for a power trio.
Doing the honors for the entirely new BMW 5-series is the entirely freaky Ginger Baker. You’ll remember Baker as the stickman for the heavy blues-based rock trio Cream. He was the one with the (allegedly) legendary appetite for the illicit who looked for all the world like an animated skeleton but for his long wisps of crimson hair, crazed eyes, and apparently quite large number of sweat glands.
